A dark house on a quiet plot
A two-storey private house on a suburban plot, designed as a single dark volume set back from the street and entered over a small bridge. The brief was for a family home that gave its owners privacy from the road and a strong sense of arrival — a house that began, deliberately, with the crossing.
The exterior is clad in dark, lacquered panels that reflect the surrounding garden and sky back at the viewer. The effect is twofold: the building reads as a single sculptural object from the street, but its mirrored surfaces dissolve into the landscape rather than imposing on it. Window reveals are deeply recessed, framing the interior as bright slivers seen between dark planes — books, lamps, the corner of a chair. The front door sits in shadow behind a small porthole and the bridge that leads to it.
